Course Description
Course emphasizes the integration of active learning, emerging technologies, and best practices to facilitate student engagement, motivation and achievement. Drawing on evidence-based, critical, trauma-informed, and culturally sustaining pedagogies, you’ll explore how to create classrooms that honor diverse ways of knowing and foster engagement, belonging, and critical thinking.

Students will compare and contrast dominant teaching and learning paradigms in higher education and assess their applicability and implications within social work education.
Students will design a course syllabus, assessments and learning plans that integrate principles of culturally sustaining, inclusive, and student-centered practices.
Students will facilitate welcoming and inclusive classroom environments where students feel safe, valued, and able to engage across differences while forming a strong learning community.
Students will apply trauma-informed and culturally sustaining practices to support student well-being, prevent re-traumatization, and cultivate healing-centered engagement.
Students will implement active learning techniques that help students think deeply, work together, and better understand complex social issues and wicked problems.
Students will develop strategies for classroom management that prioritize relationships, fairness, and shared power.
Students will construct a teaching philosophy grounded in social work ethics and professional standards, justice-oriented values, and commitment to lifelong learning that demonstrates critical self-awareness of your positionality, identity, and areas for growth as an educator.
Students will assess and ethically respond to complex and evolving challenges in social work education, including those shaped by institutional, historical, environmental, sociopolitical, legal and emerging technological forces.
