Course Objectives
The student is expected to perform independent research under the direction of a faculty member. This will provide the student with hands-on experience in conducting a set of research experiments leading to publication of the dissertation and/or journal articlesExpected Learning Outcome: It is expected the student will become proficient in conducting an independent research project including design of experiments, collection of data, analysis of data and publication of results.
Topical Outline
Students will be expected to formulate ideas with focus on plans to answer specific questions deemed important through mutal discussions with the instructor. This course will involve active participation of students in planning, preparing for, and executing experiments. Students are exptected to properly organize data obtained and carry out statistical analyses as appropriate. Involvement in routine laboratory activities including assistance in maintenance of inventories, care of equipment, and cleaning, sterilization, etc. Assessment of performance will be made by the instructor taking into account the student's efforts, intellectual contributions, producity as reflected by results and progress in achieving specific aims recognized to be important through the instructor's guidance.
