An individualized research project under the guidance of a faculty mentor within a research laboratory on campus that conducts infectious disease research. How to conduct and document scientific experiments. The risks and appropriate precautions to work safely within that particular laboratory environment.

Course Objectives
1. Understand the risks and precautions to safely conduct experiments in the laboratory. 2. Learn experimental approaches and techniques to address scientific questions. 3. Learn how to document research experiments in a laboratory notebook. 4. Learn appropriate behavior necessary to amicably cohabitate a research laboratory.
Topical Outline
Following approval of the project by the course director, the student will work with the faculty mentor toward the completion of the project. The student is expected to work 3 hours per week per credit hour toward the research project. At the completion of the semester, the faculty mentor will assign a course grade based on work ethic, research notebook, and laboratory stewardship.
