Course Objectives

To understand and apply building codes. To understand and apply the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). To prepare basic portfolios, resumes, letters of introduction, and practice interviewing skills. To understand divisions within the profession (for example, residential, office, hospitality, or institutional design) and types of firms (for example, mercantile, interior design, or architectural).

1. Health, safety, and welfare guidelines 2. Building codes and public policy issues 3. Application of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) principles and guidelines 4. Divisions within the profession based on project types and design firm settings 5. Professional licensing, certification, and professional organizations 6. Interior design and architectural firms research to identify potential sources for internship experiences the following summer 7. Discussion and preparation of portfolios, resumes, and letters of introduction and practice interviewing skills
