Studio IV: Non-Residential Sustainable Interior Design Practices


Course Description

Mid-scale non-residential development and presentation of studio interior design project with emphasis on green design principles and practices. Application of specialized knowledge from prerequisite studios and lecture classes, and familiarization with relevant codes, standards, guidelines, and public policy issues.

Additional Requirements for Graduate Students:
Research paper related to green interior design topics, including design trends, case studies, and public policy issues. Also, graduate-level project development.

Course Objectives

1) Demonstrate understanding of green design principles and applications, i.e. design that is sustainable, renewable, or renewable that has minimal/justifiable impact on the environment. 2) Apply green principles to the interior design of mid-scale non- residential projects. 3) Interior design and development of projects with an increasing degree of scale and/or complexity.


Topical Outline

1) Green and sustainable design concepts. 2) Codes, guidelines, and public policy issues. 3) Application of principles and guidelines to the design of mid-scale non-residential interior design projects. 4) Incorporation and enhancement of design and technical skills introduced in earlier interior design studio and lecture classes.
