Students will be able to understand the elements of the ethical treatment of human subjects research.
Students will be able to organize and conduct biostatistical collaboration meetings with researchers.
Students will be able to formulate and implement a data analysis plan based on study objectives, the study design, and data provided by the researchers.
Students will be able to present clear and concise oral and written reports of the statistical data analyses to various audiences, including statistical team members and non-statistician researchers.
Students will be able to investigate and apply advanced statistical methods that they have not previous encountered in graduate courses.
Topical Outline
Students will provide statistical consulting on applied problems in public health and biomedicine, including data analysis. Written and oral reports detailing the results of those analyses will be presented at the end of the semester. In addition, topical discussions will be carried out on:
Training in Human Subjects Research;
Systematic ways to plan and execute effective statistical collaborations;
Critical Evaluation of Objectives and Data;
Formulating a statistical analysis plan
Data Organization and Summary;
Conduction data analysis;
Writing Statistical Information for Non-Statisticians (emphasized throughout the course);
Researching Advanced Statistical Topics (as required by projects);
