Course Description

This continuation of Introduction to Latin American and Caribbean Studies I serves as a basic introduction to Latin American and Caribbean Studies. Faculty from various disciplines deliver weekly lectures introducing students to issues related to the cultures, languages, ecology, geography, history, linguistics, political science, and the societies of Latin America and the Caribbean. Advanced readings and discussions following the weekly lectures.

Course Objectives

- To examine research and consider differing viewpoints on topics and issues related to Latin America and the Caribbean. - To assimilate and analyze information for the purpose of engaging in academic discussions/debates with faculty and students on important Latin American and Caribbean topics. - To formulate and effectively communicate an argument on a relevant regional topic using presentation software. - To explore the societal implications that exist for Latin American minority groups in both the United States and Latin America. - To utilize WebCT, the internet, and email as learning and communication tools.
