Concepts Studio


Course Description

Studio-based techniques for design ideation and advancing creative problem-solving while designing experiential space and conceptual objects. Projects explore interdisciplinary approach to design thinking. Topics include conceptual diagramming, drawing, prototyping, and rendering. Emphasis is placed on ideation processes and conceptual development in the built environment.

Course Objectives

• Build on skills acquired in art foundations courses to effectively and efficiently explore creative problem-solving. • Understand the design continuum that exists within the disciplines related to the built environment from city planning through exterior and interior architecture and product design. • Explore studio-based applications of elements and principles of designing spaces and objects in the built environment. • Experience ideation processes and techniques used to conceptualize, model, and present design concepts.

• Introduction to creativity and ideation • Introduction to the design continuum that exists within the disciplines related to the built environment from city planning through exterior and interior architecture and product design • Conceptual development throughout project design phases and project development • Designing experiential space and conceptual objects • Free-hand drawing and conceptual sketching • Conceptual diagramming and drawing, prototyping, and rendering • Three-dimensional modelling of space and objects • Presentation techniques used throughout design phases and project development
