Web site design for professional artists, reviewing historic and contemporary models. Addresses site creation from the ground up, examining best practices and strategies for successful design and management for portfolio and works created specifically for the internet.

Course Objectives
By the end of the semester students will: 1. Become aware of a variety of approaches to representing artistic practice on the World Wide Web. 2. Develop specialized strategies for writing, design, and promotion using the Internet. 3. Gain proficiency in digital media to create professional Web sites.

1. Brief introduction to the Internet and examples of artists’ Web sites. 2. Preparation and formatting of images for use on the Internet. 3. Writing effective descriptions of work and artist statements. 4. Preparation of curriculum vitae for Internet distribution. 5. Domain names and Web hosting. 6. Instruction in the use of software to create Web sites. 7. Creating preliminary designs: interface, navigation, and storyboard. 8. Special concerns with animation, sound, and typography. 9. Development and launch of Web site. 10. Best practices in content management, search engine descriptions, and hyperlinks.
