Advanced Policy Analysis in Public Health


Course Description

In-depth analysis of major health politics and policy issues confronted by a broad spectrum of public and private sectors. Provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the theoretical and practical basis for the development and analysis of policies for the improvement of health in a variety of health care settings.

Course Objectives

Students will be able to: 1. Analyze and compare various historical contexts for health policy analysis in the United States; 2. Assess contemporary issues in health policy at the state, national, and international levels of public health policy making; 3. Evaluate multiple theoretical frameworks for developing public health policies; 4. Assess and apply a rational 9-step approach for prospectively conducting a policy analysis; 5. Create and present legislative impact analyses and policy memos for influencing the decision-making process in public health.
