Course Description
Roles of women in music, including the history of women musicians in western art music, world cultures, and popular music. Gender studies in music.
Additional Requirements for Graduate Students:
Graduate students will be asked to read several additional
primary source texts, including historical documents from
different countries regarding women's contributions to the
history of musicology. They will be required to do an
independent research project which they will present to the
class (minimum 20 pages of publishable or near-publishable
quality) and to lead at least one class discussion.
