Examination of research, theory, and practices related to the social and emotional development of gifted students. Design of instructional strategies, methods, and guidance models for addressing the social and emotional issues in the lives of gifted and talented students.

Course Objectives
1. explain the social and emotional characteristics and traits unique to gifted students of varying abilities, cultures, and socioeconomic backgrounds; 2. explain the role played by contextual influences in the social and emotional development of gifted students; 3. explain the theoretical literature in gifted education that assists researchers and educators in understanding the unique affective needs of gifted children and adolescents; 4. design instructional plans to address specific social and emotional issues in the lives of gifted students; 5. design classroom guidance activities to support the social and emotional development of gifted students; 6. use community resources, articulate with other educational agencies, and develop relationships to support the social and emotional development of gifted students.
