Course Objectives

After successful completion of the course, the students will: 1. Learn basic biochemical engineering concepts. 2. Learn about biochemical engineering processes, including process flow sheets, process units, and their functions. 3. Understand the stepwise methodology to solve material balance problems. 4. Understand degree of freedom analysis for solving material balance problems. 5. Solve material balance problems in biochemical engineering process for single and multiple process units. 6. Solve energy balance problems with and without a chemical reaction. 7. Understand the basics of biochemical process design. 8. Generate process flow sheets for a given biochemical engineering design process. 9. Understand the importance of ethics, code, and safety in engineering design. 10. Learn concepts related to feasibility and economic evaluation of design. 11. Develop the ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering design and analysis problems. 12. Apply the concepts learned to design a biochemical engineering process in the course project.
