Course Description

Ensemble performance of a wide variety of music and movement designed for athletic and other University events.

Additional Requirements for Graduate Students:
Assume musical leadership roles: demonstrate leadership in the role of assisting the conductor with internship responsibility for performances, including advanced teaching/rehearsal techniques, show design, and conducting expertise. Skills must be at a professional level.

Student Learning Outcomes

  • Students will be able to demonstrate marching fundamentals.
  • Students will be able to demonstrate ensemble playing fundamentals
  • Students will be able to demonstrate technical facility on a wind or percussion instrument.
  • Students will be able to successfully perform varied repertoire suited to the ensemble.
  • Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of and ability to perform various styles of marching and field maneuvers.
  • Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of selected repertoire.
  • Graduate students will be able to demonstrate ability to conduct rehearsals for marching band at a professional level.
  • Graduate students will be able to demonstrate ability to select repertoire, arrange music, and write drill.
  • Graduate students will be able to demonstrate ability to teach marching and playing fundamentals to undergraduate students.
  • Students will collaborate as a section, working together to form a cohesive result. One student from each instrumental section is assigned the role of leader for that section to conduct certain rehearsals and sectionals with feedback to leadership skills provided by the professor.
