Course Description
Continuation of Elementary Indonesian I, emphasizing oral fluency, written expression, and reading comprehension. Taught through the use of vocabulary in simulated settings through repetition drills, frequent use of vocabulary, acting, and reading aloud. Augmented by reading and grammatical analysis of texts.

Course Objectives
1- communicate and converse in Indonesian on a variety of topics occurring in everyday situations. 2- read texts of elementary level II difficulty. 3- write elementary level II narrative style paragraphs. 4- develop cultural awareness. Communicate Effectively through Speech To strengthen skills in oral expression, analysis, style, and interaction by means such as class reports, class discussion, and oral examinations. Computer Literacy To enhance and facilitate computer literacy by the use of word processing, the web, email, and OASIS through research, preparation, and presentation of work such as oral class reports and completion of written assignments.

Topic 1, Week 1, 2 & 3 Review and DI RUMAH TEMAN -- AT FRIENDS' HOUSE. Train travel in Java, indekost, what things are made from, before and after, furniture, enquiring about and indicating possession, houses, rooms, home life, where to store things. Grammar: while, topic-comment sentence, indicating past tense. Topic 2, Week 4 & 5 JALAN KAMI -- OUR STREET. Enquiring about and indicating distance, classifiers for occupations, numbers over 1,000, interrogative "when," dropping in, frequency, street traders, approaching places, approaching points in time, messages. Grammar: indicating future tense, nouns with ke-an affixation, priority positioning, the conjunction bahwa. Topic 3, Week 6 & 7 AYO, KITA KE RESTORAN -- LET'S GO TO RESTAURANTS. With whom?, indicating "when," where things and people come from, reading the menu, ordering, food likes and dislikes, disappointments, choosing alternatives, fast food, Padang restaurants, expressing opinions, dealing with confusion, asking for the bill. Grammar: plural forms of address, ke-an verb forms, verbs: an introduction, indicating present tense. Topic 4, Week 8 & 9 PERLU KE DOKTER? -- NEED TO SEE DOCTORS? Parts of the body, asking what the matter is, illnesses and describing symptoms, wishing a speedy recovery, buying medicine, the uses of jamu and medicines, quoting somebody as an authority, healthy eating, breaking bad news. Grammar: Pun meaning "also," verbs with the ber-prefix. Topic 5, Week 10 & 11 TEMPAT BERBELANJA DI KOTA YOGYAKARTA -- SHOPPING CENTERS IN YOGYAKARTA. One of, making people plural (para), where can I find?, anything and nothing, shopping in Yogyakarta, where things are made, what's suitable and what's not suitable, enquiring about and indicating certainty, enquiring about and indicating size, items of clothing, describing fruits. Grammar: Group classifiers potong and helai, "both...and" (baik...maupun), verbs with the me-prefix. Topic 6, Week 12 & 13 BERKUNJUNG KE DAERAH PEDESAAN -- VISITING VILLAGES. Travel timetables, what's necessary and what's not necessary, indicating contrast, city and village lifestyles compared, Borobudur temple, enquiring about and indicating shape, for a period of time, expressing astonishment, impressions, plans, relating experiences. Grammar: The conjunctions sehingga and supaya, nouns formed with the pe-prefix, pronouns,-kan suffix with causative effect. Topic 7, Week 14 & 15 TEMPAT-TEMPAT YANG MENARIK DI KOTA YOGYAKARTA -- INTERESTING PLACES IN YOGYAKARTA. Yogyakarta city, confirmation questions with suffix-kah, what's it called?, what people are doing, batik process, asking for recommendations, asking if something can be done, agreeing and disagreeing. Grammar: pe-prefix attached to adjective stem words, -kan suffix, meaning untuk, apakah used as a conjunction.
