Course Description
The development of Greek poetry from Homer through the Hellenistic period. Epic, lyric poetry, tragedy, comedy, hymns and epigrams will be read and discussed. This is a translation course from Greek to English.

Student learning Outcomes
- Students will acquire an overview of the development of Greek poetry from its beginnings to the Hellenistic period.
- Students will acquire familiarity with a broad range of uses for poetry, in accordance with the topical outline below.
- Students will improve their technical understanding of, and ability to translate, Greek from various genres and historical periods.
- Students will increase their familiarity with the conventions of classical studies and improve their research skills.
