Two 2000-level ENGL courses or (one 2000-level ENGL course and one 3000-level ENGL course) or (one 2000-level ENGL course and one 2000-level CMLT course)

Course Objectives

1. To communicate effectively through writing and speech; 2. Critical thinking; 3. Moral reasoning. Students will develop a familiarity with Faulkner's career, with his major artistic achievements, and will write a number of essays and/or research papers addressing his works in some detail.


Topical Outline

Typical texts would include at least seven novels and a gathering of short stories. Works might include Flags in the Dust, The Sound and the Fury, As I Lay Dying; Sanctuary, Light in August, Absalom, Absalom!, Go Down Moses, The Reivers, and The Unvanquished. Course work may include essays, final and mid- term exams, and a comprehensive final essay.
