Course Objectives
Upon completion the successful student will: - learn necessary background for informed performance and interpretation of early music; - gain experience working with musical manuscripts; - discover the possibilities and priorities of Medieval and Renaissance composition.

Topics include: Music theory in ancient Greece and Rome; Music of the early Christian church; Development of polyphony; The music of the Middle Ages; The music of the Early Renaissance.
