Examination of the place of rock music in society, from its roots
in African American blues and European American folk to its place
in current society.

Student Learning Outcomes
- Upon completion, the successful student will be able to analyze the aesthetic qualities of rock music; students will identify patterns and draw conclusions based on this evidence.
- Upon completion, the successful student will be able to assess the commonality and diversity of the various cultures that have contributed to the development of rock in America; Students will gain an awareness of how their own musical choices are both effected by their environment and cause an effect on their environment.
- Upon completion, the successful student will be able to evaluate the impact and the role of rock music in society.
- Upon completion, the successful student will be able to aurally analyze various rock recordings.
- Upon completion, the successful student will be able to communicate understanding of these outcomes in an oral presentation.
