Course Objectives
This course introduces graduate students to the concept and methodologies used in genetic mapping and the dissection of complex traits. By the end of the course, students should be able to: (1) Define quantitative trait loci. (2) Select genetic populations suitable for a QTL analysis. (3) Understand basic genotypic and phenotypic data organization requirements. (4) Construct a genetic map. (5) Perform QTL analyses. (6) Apply QTL results to facilitate marker-assisted breeding.
Topical Outline
Molecular markers Genetic populations Linkage map construction Marker-trait association Computer software for QTL analysis High-resolution nmapping
