Course Objectives
1. Acquainting students with Jane Austen's novels. 2. Understanding of the historical and social conditions in which she wrote. 3. To polish students' writing skills. 4. Theoretical issues raised by Austen's canonization and her presence in contemporary popular culture.
Topical Outline
Assignments will include the six published novels: Sense and Sensibility Pride and Prejudice Northanger Abbey Emma Mansfield Park Persuasion They will also view and discuss film versions of the novels. Students will write several essays and take exams over the assigned reading. They will choose an area of Regency culture for further research and presentation both orally and in writing.
