Course Objectives
This course builds on Research Development I. In this course students learn how to select a viable and relevant research topic, how to develop an effective working relationship with the supervisory committee, and the elements of a properly prepared manuscript. By sharing students’ preliminary thesis or dissertation proposals, students will strengthen their capacity to critique others’ research and produce their own high-quality thesis or dissertation proposal.

Preparing your thesis or dissertation proposal a) Presentation and format; title page and outline of contents b) Introductory chapter c) Preparing the literature review for a thesis/dissertation proposal i. Acknowledging sources and referencing conventions, plagiarism ii. Connecting the literature review with your research questions, proposed methods, and rationale for doing the research d) Preparing the methods section 3. Presenting your research proposal to others verbally and in writing 4. Critiquing others’ research plans; elements of scholarly constructive feedback
