Analysis and application of the theory, methods, and practices of organization development methodology and behavioral science knowledge to the planned development of the strategies, structures, and processes that foster effective organizations.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, successful students will be able to: 1.Understand the issues, theories, and practices related to organization change and development from the perspective of Human Resource Development. 2.Define organization development (OD) with its main objectives and characteristics. 3.Describe the historical roots, purposes, and major theories of OD. 4.Understand and apply organization change and transformation strategies on individual, team, and organizational levels. 5.Explain and critique OD theories, models, and practices. 6.Identify the skills and roles of organization development consultants. 7.Identify the components of organizational culture and explain how they both affect and are affected by OD interventions. 8.Define readiness for change and identify concerns related to change and variables impacting the adoption of innovation. 9.Develop and apply the action research process to address organizational challenges. 10.Describe, differentiate between, and apply a variety of interventions at the individual, team/group, and organizational levels that can be used to foster organization development. 11.Identify potential ethical dilemmas in OD consultation and describe strategies for resolving them. 12.Describe their own strengths and areas for improvement as they apply to OD involvement; describe the value of self- knowledge in the OD consultant.
