Course Description

This interdisciplinary course focuses on how undergraduates learn. Participants will learn a variety of factors that influence teaching and learning in an attempt to discover and define what it means to be an effective college teacher, and will also discuss theory, techniques, and strategies for helping undergraduates become active learners.

Course Objectives

In this course, students will: • Increase their awareness about how people learn • Examine pedagogy surrounding undergraduate teaching • Explore learning strategies that can help improve learning in the college classroom • Observe and reflect on the practice of other college teachers • Discuss theories, techniques, and strategies for helping students become active learners • Plan lessons based on the strategies learned in this class
