Course Description

Graduate student preparation and delivery of seminar related to physiology, pharmacology and/or research topic. This may include generation of an hypothesis with preparation of a thesis or dissertation proposal, discussion of background material, and collection and analysis of data with preparation of appropriate Powerpoint slide material.

Course Objectives

This course will teach the students to generate and develop an hypothesis for presentation. This will include instruction on how to properly organize background information, how to generate informative graphs and how to integrate new data into existing data to refute or support the hypothesis. Information will be presented to the department as a seminar, thus the students will also receive instruction on how to organize presentations, how to properly develop and present graphs and how to develop conclusions from their data. In addition, the students will be expected to learn experimental design with appropriate statistical analysis for presentation of their data. Data collected from the student’s research project will be analyzed and put into a format appropriate for oral and written presentation. Grading will be accomplished by evaluation of the presentation by Departmental Faculty who will assign grades based on development of background information to support development of an hypothesis, proper statement of the hypothesis, proper organization of new data, appropriate statistical analysis, significance of research to physiology and pharmacology, presentation style of seminar.
