Peer Leadership on Campus


Course Description

The purpose of this course is to equip students with skills to lead groups of peers in bringing about positive change on campus and in relationship to the community with the goal of active citizenship. Communication, facilitation, peer leadership, and community outreach are the focus for discovery and experiential learning.

Course Objectives

•Identify and develop personal leadership styles •Learn an overview of contemporary leadership theories •Develop and articulate a personal philosophy of leadership •Increase competencies in the skills necessary for effective leadership •Demonstrate an appreciation of differences by defining diversity in one’s own words •Develop peer leadership skills through campus and community involvement opportunities •Apply knowledge, skills, and abilities through participation in experiential learning opportunities
