Intermediate Pashto II


Course Description

Continuation of Intermediate Pashto I. Oral fluency and development of writing and reading skills in Pashto. Taught by the use of vocabulary in simulated settings through repetition drills, frequent use of vocabulary, acting, and reading aloud. Augmented by reading, translation, and discussion in Pashto of Pashto texts.

Course Objectives

The objectives of the course are to help students to: 1- read Pashto texts of intermediate level II difficulty. 2- communicate and converse in Pashto on a variety of topics and understand spoken Pashto in everyday situations. 3- write intermediate II narrative style paragraphs coherently and with reasonable accuracy. 4- develop cultural awareness through additional readings and class discussions.

Week 1: Review Pashto 2003 Week 2-3: Past progressive; conversation: talking about Afghanistan/Pakistan Week 4-5: Habitual past; conversation: special days Week 6: Review wks 1-5, exam Week 7-8: Present perfect: conversation: personal health and injuries Week 9-10: Past perfect and the subjunctive; conversation: explaining objectives Week 11: Review wks 7-10, exam Week 12-13: Past conditional; conversation: expressing sympathy Week 14-15: Comprehensive review
