Independent laboratory research for students in the Biomedical and Health Sciences program, under the direction of a BHSI faculty member.

Students will meet with faculty members on a regular basis. Four hours in the lab for one hour of credit.

Course Objectives

Each student will take responsibility along with their professor for developing a syllabus for the course that builds on learning completed in Honors Research. Topics will include topics such as perfecting basic and learning more advanced laboratory techniques and methods, understanding scientific terms and concepts, keeping a laboratory notebook, meetings with faculty member, participation in journal clubs, and writing a scientific paper. Students that successfully complete the course should have an understanding of relevant research in a specific area of emphasis and appropriate experimental methods. Students will assimilate information from discussion with instructor and interactions with other lab researchers and assigned reading. Students will be evaluated on the basis of their understanding of their project and level of effort. Each student must prepare a paper that describes his or her research project. This paper will be used to evaluate the student.
