Student learning Outcomes

  • Students will develop greater comfort in keyboard reading and ensemble playing skills.
  • Students will learn repertoire that includes classical, sacred, blues, and contemporary styles.
  • Students will learn a variety of accompaniment styles and patterns for use in solo and group settings.
  • Students will develop additional functional piano skills in improvisation, harmonization, and transposition.

  • • Keyboard technique; scale/arpeggio/chord inversions and fingerings
  • • Solo, collaborative, and ensemble playing
  • • Piano accompaniments in various styles for solo/group music settings
  • • “Sing and play” repertoire (folk songs, popular music)
  • • Improvisation (12-bar blues, other styles, and harmonic progressions)
  • • Harmonization and transposition
