Course Description
Basic principles and methods of string performance and pedagogy.
Additional Requirements for Graduate Students:
Graduate students will be required to write a research paper and
present a research project on their findings. This project
should provide specific information pertaining to pedagogical
approaches related to the teaching and learning of public
school students that are being discussed in the course.

Course Objectives
The successful student will: * demonstrate familiarity with the problems that are inherit with the playing of the string instruments. * detect, isolate, analyze, and correct errors as they occur among elementary and secondary string students. * evaluate and systhesize method books and literature related to string class instruction. * demonstrate proficiency on one upper and one lower string instrument during their particular rotation.

* Understanding how to detect, isolate, analyze, and correct problems associated with the skill development of beginning and intermediate string players. * Developing the skills necessary to organize a lesson and rehearsal in order to successfully teach beginning and intermediate string players. * Developing a minimum performance proficiency on one lower and one upper string instrument. * Creating a reference manual/guide of string pedagogy materials related to the teaching of school string students.
