Course Objectives
The successful student will demonstrate: 1. A broad knowledge of developmental characteristics of students; 2. A wide range of generic and instrument-specific teaching strategies; 3. Knowledge of standard methodologies (e.g., Suzuki, Kodaly, Alexander Technique, Orff, approaches to improvisation); 4. Knowledge of varied stylistic repertoire at all instructional levels; 5. Knowledge of research in teaching and learning pertinent to studio teaching; 6. Ability to participate in teacher research; 7. Ability to construct profiles for individual students and provide rationales for selection of instructional materials, repertoire, learning modalities, and teaching techniques; and 8. Ability to apply the principles of privatized instruction (e.g., motivational techniques, development of individual style).
