Course Description
An introduction to the creative process working through inspiration, identification, conceptualization, exploration and refinement, definition, communication, and finally production. Throughout the semester, students will articulate, reflect, and apply design concepts and sustainable practices to problem solve real-world challenges that are impacting local businesses or community organizations.

Course Objectives
Students will: 1. Understand the creative design process. 2. Understand elements and principles of design. 3. Learn tools and techniques to promote creativity within themselves and others. 4. Apply tools and techniques to integrate design elements and principles into details relevant to the design concept. 5. Develop and create concepts for new ideas and products that respond to challenges and industry trends influencing the workplace or community organizations. 6. Develop creative problem-solving skills. 7. Examine current topics in creative thinking. 8. Work in collaborative teams to gain experience in soft skills, such as critical thinking, communication, and working with diverse groups of people. 9. Gain experience in formally communicating and presenting ideas to the class as well as provide feedback to those presenting.
