Classical and contemporary theories and practices of career development with a particular focus on career issues faced by adults and implications for the workplace and Human Resource and Organization Development. Introduction to coaching adults as key career development and HROD intervention.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of the course, students should be able to: • Recognize and name key concepts and scholarship significant to understanding career development and coaching for adults. • State, discuss, and explain how individual, social, institutional, cultural, and other contextual factors affect adult career development and coaching. • Identify and address individual and systemic barriers to adult career development such as sexism, racism, classism, and others. • Explain how various career development interventions and strategies benefit individuals and organizations. • Organize and implement career development and coaching interventions. • Understand the role of learning in career development and coaching. • Identify and apply interventions appropriate for career development and coaching. • Engage in self-assessment and peer coaching. • Discuss how career development theory applies to student's own experience.
