Examination of the ways in which environmental controversies
and issues at the institutional, federal, state, and local
levels develop, or fail to develop, into statute and policy.
Governmental and regulatory structures and functions will also
be discussed.

- Students will understand and learn about major environmental issues such as land use, water quality and quantity, energy and climate change, air quality, international drivers of environmental policy, and environmental economics.
- Students will understand and learn how the laws and policies that address these issues were developed and how those are likely to change.
- Students will understand how to study and practice the challenges of communicating science to policy makers.
