Spatial Epidemiology


Course Description

Spatial modeling in infectious, chronic, and environmental epidemiology. Methods for disease mapping, detection and delineation of disease clusters, and linking disease outcome to environmental exposures are considered. Parameter estimation, inference, and diagnostic testing for geostatistical, random field, and point process models are described.

Course Objectives

Students completing this course should be able to (1) produce descriptive maps, (2) compute descriptive statistics, (3) describe methods for detection and delineation of disease clusters, (4) describe models for spatial data, (5) build models linking risk factors to spatial patterns of disease, and (6) interpret results of geospatial data analysis.
