Examination of global health problems and health promotion programs in a given country.

Non-Traditional Format
The major portion of the course will occur in field-based activities. Students will be exposed to seminars and clinical or community experience, as well as on-site instruction, arranged as a part of the study abroad experience. Students are expected to attend all activities and complete all course assignments which may include journaling about course experiences (may be electronic) and completion of a paper or project on a selected health problem or issue.

Course Objectives
By the end of the program, students will be able to: 1. discuss global and cross-cultural issues in the practice of health promotion. 2. explain health promotion problems and issues within a cultural context. 3. examine a health problem or issue from a multilevel perspective.
Topical Outline
Class meetings: Lectures, group discussions, and site visits. Students will visit local health facilities, including public health facilities, to observe health promotion and public health strategies at work. Local health officials/workers will explain current health programs. Observation and discussion of cultural factors related to health.
