Course Objectives
This is an online independent study course designed to teach veterinarians how to develop a preventative medicine strategy utilizing diagnostic testing, vaccination, and epidemiology for poultry health management. At the conclusion of the course, veterinarians are expected to be proficient in preventative medicine in the management of commercial poultry systems in their home country.
Topical Outline
With direction of the poultry health mentor, the veterinarian will: 1. Utilize diagnostic testing (bacterial, viral, parasitic) to identify a poultry industry/farm problem to study 2. Design a control plan utilizing fundamental epidemiological principles of vaccination, biosecurity, or serological monitoring 3. Collect poultry health information relevant to the plan 4. Prepare project report to be included in final thesis
