This is an online distance learning course intended to educate veterinarians regarding specific international trade and public health issues important for import/export of poultry for their home country.

Course Objectives

This is an independent online study course designed to teach veterinarians how to investigate food safety, public health or international trade issues for poultry health management. At the conclusion of the course, veterinarians are expected to be knowledgeable regarding the important international trade policies and issues in the management of commercial poultry systems in their home country.


Topical Outline

Practical application of food safety or trade work. Under the direction of the poultry health mentor, the veterinarian will: 1. Utilize diagnostic testing to determine the distribution of a foodborne, zoonotic or poultry pathogen in the poultry industry/farm situation 2. Design a control plan utilizing fundamental epidemiological principles of vaccination, biosecurity, or serological monitoring 3. Collect poultry health information relevant to the plan 4. Prepare project report to be included in final thesis
