Course Description

An overview of the complete design of a commercial (as opposed to a residential) building project. In addition to the structural design, this includes the various systems that are required for commercial buildings, such as HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, students will have an understanding of: 1) The typical design and planning process used in commercial building projects 2) The structural support and load analysis for commercial sized buildings 3) The major systems that comprise a commercial building project 4) Various sizing and analytical procedures used during the design of a commercial building 5) How the integration of the various systems and structural design can lead to either well designed or poorly designed buildings
