International Trade: Theory and Policy


Course Description

Determinants of world trade patterns, issues relating to immigration and capital mobility, and international trade policy and international macroeconomics, including the short-run and long-run determinants of exchange rates and their interplay with international trade patterns.

Additional Requirements for Graduate Students:
A course project or additional exam will be required of graduate students.

Student Learning Outcomes

  • Upon completion of the course, students understand how to use the tools of microeconomic analysis and macroeconomic analysis to explore the patterns of trade among countries, its welfare and distributional implication as well as their interactions with exchange rates and the balance of payments.
  • Upon completion of the course, students understand how to complete a systematic study of the material and students will be able to give insight into the workings of an open economy as well as the state of our international economic order, both past and present.
