Course Objectives
After completion of the laboratory, students will be familiar with and be able to demonstrate some of the skills, methods, and tools used in cellular and molecular biology research, including: Using skills commonly associated with biological research, such as keeping good laboratory notes, using applied math and basic statistics, reading and preparing graphs, and following appropriate safety procedures. Demonstrating proper laboratory technique. Designing and performing an experimental approach to find an answer to question(s) or to solve a problem. Analysis of experimental results and interpretation of these results in relationship to the hypothesis being testing and to existing knowledge. Distinguishing between the limits of experimental procedures, experimental uncertainty, and mistakes in reading or recording information. Applying their understanding of basic biological concepts to answer a question or solve a problem. Reporting the findings of their investigations in a variety of formats ranging from informal discussion and oral presentations to written essays and reports. Working cooperatively with peers to solve complex real-world problems.
