Course Description
Design and plan the implementation of retirement plans and employee benefits from the perspective of both employer and employee. Understand basic pension and tax-advantaged plans as well as advanced retirement savings, deferred compensation, employee stock options (qualified and non-qualified), governmental benefits including social insurance.

Course Objectives
This course will help students be able to: (1) review basic retirement planning concepts, (2) evaluate and recommend appropriate retirement plans for small business owners and sole practitioners, (3) incorporate public plans such as Social Security into an overall retirement and understand the taxation of such plans, (4) understand the importance and different types of employee benefits such as health care plans and incentive plans, (5) design and package benefit plans incorporating advanced deferred compensation elements for small and closely-held business, (6) understand current research directions and policy influences on the field of retirement planning and employee benefits.
