An in-depth overview of the principles of disaster management, including the history of disaster management, examination of the four phases of disaster management, introduction to federal emergency management functions, and basic disaster terminology.

Course Objectives

1. Equip students with a basic understanding of the principles of disaster management 2. Be able to demonstrate knowledge of the four phases of disaster management 3. Be able to understand and speak common disaster language via the National Incident Management System 4. Be able to assess what agency is responsible for what role in disasters based on emergency support functions 5. Provide overall understanding of the National Response Framework, the Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program, Presidential Directives, Emergency Support Functions, and the Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP) and Healthcare Preparedness Program (HPP) capabilities
