Course Objectives
The objective of this course is to give students insight into how important horticultural and agronomic traits are inherited, how the genetic makeup of cultivars and accessions are affected by plant reproduction, and its implications for seed propagation and seed saving.
Topical Outline
Topics discussed: -Plant reproduction -Self-pollinating and out-crossing species -Genetic composition of cultivars and accessions -Important traits with Mendelian inheritance -Important traits with Non-Mendelian inheritance -The need for genetic diversity -Commercial seed propagation -Seed saving
