Course Description

Ethics in conducting clinical research and in the assessment and behavior-personality change procedures currently used in clinical psychology. Ethical, applied, and theoretical issues important to these applied procedures.

Course Objectives

The objectives of this course are to help the student to: 1. develop an in-depth working knowledge of the Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct (EPPPCC) of the American Psychological Association and with APA procedures for dealing with charges of unethical behavior; 2. develop the ability to apply the EPPCC to situations occurring in the context of psychologists' roles as clinicians, researchers, and teachers; 3. develop a framework for recognizing and resolving ethical issues; 4. develop a working knowledge of statutory and case law relevant to the practice of psychology and understand the relationship between law and ethics; 5. develop an appreciation for continuing education, consultation, and life-long learning with regard to ethical issues.
