In Model Composition, students will study and imitate styles from three contrasting genres from the 20th century whose influences extend into 21st-century compositions. Past topics have included the quarter-tonal piano, spectral music, 8-bit video game music for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), and K-Pop production. Throughout the semester, students will discuss readings, analyze works and compose creative projects imitating the stylistic vocabulary of these genres.
Additional Requirements for Graduate Students: Graduate students will be required to present longer and more sophisticated creative projects, analyses, research presentations, and reading reviews than their undergraduate counterparts.
