Course Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to: Develop potable water distribution systems, including sizing conduits and storages and pumping systems for transport and storage of water that meet design constraints using hand calculation methods and computer tools. Size pipes in a water distribution network and evaluate flows in each pipe under normal, peak, and fire flow conditions using hand calculation methods and computer tools. Develop gravity and force main sewer collection systems, including wet wells, pumps. Size sewer pipes and wet wells in accordance with design constraints and accepted practice. Evaluate odor potentials and momentum forces at critical locations. Select appropriate pump(s) for application using hand calculation methods and computer tools. Develop gravity and force main storm water collection systems, including wet wells and pumps. Size pipes and wells in accordance with design constraints and accepted practice.
Topical Outline
Review of energy and momentum concepts Best management practices for erosion control on agricultural lands and developed lands Best management practices for runoff management on developing lands under NPDES restrictions Pumps and pumping Design of comprehensive storm water collection systems Design of comprehensive sanitary sewer collection systems Design of potable water delivery systems
