Course Description
A practicum experience in partnership with a professional organization to allow students to pursue their own particular interests and possible career paths in sports media. Instructors will provide specific learning parameters and critical feedback on student work as the term progresses.

Course Objectives
Students will be exposed to professional standards, expectations, and production values. They will develop an understanding of business operations in sports and sports media. Engagement: Students will perform both independently and with teamwork in a professional setting. Mentorship: Students will provide written reports regularly to the instructor over the course of the internship and receive feedback on them. The instructor also will receive reports on the student's progress from the student's supervisor(s). Challenge: The student will be immersed in an organizational setting within sports and sports media and will carry out projects and activities as directed. Work will be aligned to the work of the organization and will involve independent works as well as assistance with routine work in producing sports media. Ownership: Students will produce reports explaining their work and how they are achieving it, along with any complications or challenges they encounter. Self/social awareness: Student reports will articulate career and professional skill development and how the experience shapes personal and professional goals. They also will conduct informational interviews with professionals outside their current organization to develop a better sense of the skills and experience needed to be successful in the sports media field as a whole. Outcomes: Students will learn to apply their skills in a professional environment, completing real-world assignments and handling real-world conflicts and issues; will learn to network; and will demonstrate an efficient day-to-day application of personal skills and knowledge areas.
