Non-Traditional Format
Observation and practical experience in a setting in the community such as a health department, hospital, clinic, or a corporate health promotion program. A written report of the experience is required. Students spend a minimum of 150 hours in the field to earn 3 hours of credit.

Course Objectives
The Health Promotion/Health Services Practicum is designed to give the student an on-site experience in some facet of health promotion/services in a community, hospital, for-profit, clinical, or health promotion setting. The purposes of the practicum are to help the professional health promotion specialist to: 1. Observe and participate in activities related to the health promotion competencies within the appropriate settings. 2. Analyze and assess personal and professional skills needed for the responsibilities of a health promotion professional. 3. Be of service to the community partner.
Topical Outline
Assess individual and community needs for health promotion and/or health services. Plan health promotion strategies, interventions, and programs. Implement health promotion strategies, interventions, and programs. Conduct evaluation and research related to health promotion. Administer health promotion strategies, interventions, and programs. Serve a health promotion resource person. Communicate and advocate for health and health promotion. Reflect on what was learned about the professional work, the community, and self.
