Course Description
Lesson planning, implementation, and formative classroom assessments to foster equity-orientated social studies classrooms. Applied teaching tasks will demonstrate competencies in the supervised, companion field experience.

Student learning Outcomes
Analyze the sources for the selection of social studies content and classroom activities that are appropriate and differentiated for students in 6-12 grade classrooms.
Apply social studies content standards when designing lessons, planning curriculum, and implementing their assessments.
Apply backwards design and an equity-orientation for lesson planning to formatively assess students within the planning, teaching, and assessment cycle.
Design formative assessments based on knowledge of their characteristics, uses, and limitations to promote student growth, match instructional goals, and foster equitable classroom engagement.
Incorporate the unique cognitive, physical, social, emotional, and moral characteristics of students in grades 6-12 as individuals and members of groups within their lesson planning, instruction, and assessment.
Engage in ongoing forms of inquiry about their practice using instructional analysis tools and evidence from 6-12 students’ classroom assessments.
